Studio class: surface decoration using under glaze stains

A two hour session in my studio for one or two at a time to suit you. A guided hand-build of white stoneware plate, decorated with studio materials & traditional techniques to create a really personalised and original work.

On the day:
🏺A brief introduction to the making and materials

🏺do bring your own visual resources to create your design - I'll send a prep sheet with your booking to guide- but don't worry if you need help to create your image.

🏺allow 60-90 mins for using under glaze-stains as painted colours, these work in a very similar way to watercolours where colour and tone can be built up with application.

🏺 Finally you'll add sgraffito lines, a scratching technique to create lines that will back-fill with stain after first firing to create line work.

Glazing & firing:
🏺I will add black stain into your line work, clear glaze and fire to top temperature, This will create a food safe surface and enhance colour work.

🏺you will collect your finished work from me a few weeks later.

*I am fully DBS certified, toilets on same floor, level access. This is a standing activity, let me know of this is problematic, maybe I can bring this to you?*

There is good parking, helpful bus routes and a nice cafe at Thamesside.
