Class, your time & date: Half day, Intro to handbuilding.

🪴 This is a one session private class to introduce hand building skills via the making of three functional items:
-A stoneware mug personalised with stamped decorative relief
-a folded dish suitable for soap, dips, rings, keys etc
-Mark making on a black stoneware plate with sgrafitto technique.
3-3.5 hours long.

Enjoy quiet and close tuition as a pair or small private group in my studio; Dads & daughters, couples, sisters, hens, respite from stress, for well-being, special occasions, you decide! You’ll use studio materials and tools and the studio workspace & we’ll work together carefully to make three homewares that would make lovely gifts, or to be proudly kept, robust enough for daily use.

We’ll work with this calming organic material with fundamental skills but whilst I explain the nuances of material & technique so as to achieve really professional results. You'll learn set up, cutting & construction using templates marking, stamping and building to make a dish and a mug. Then we’ll look at the sgraffito technique (scratching through a contrasting layer of slip) and make fast bold marks and shapes onto a plate. I will then fire & glaze your work to your instruction.

🪴 Price includes the session and prep, all materials & use of tools, my time in finishing, & studio work for bisque & glazing kilns.

🪴 You tell me when you’d like to come & subject to my availability I can look at daytimes, evenings, or weekends to suit you. Please contact me before purchase if you need a very specific date or timing. All ages welcome, my workbench is 90cms high, so check your child is tall enough & let me know if a seated space is required. Ground floor access with a slight raise on the door entry and toilet within. Larger groups can be accomodated in a nearby space so do enquire.
