Hand build a stoneware plant jar using organic material for surface decoration inspiration. Sized to house a 10cm pot, ideal for supermarket herbs, house plants or cat nip! Makes a lovely table decoration for a special event. Using studio materials tools and techniques you will roll fresh stoneware studio grade clay and cut using templates. We'll get creative with stamps, botanical cuttings, and letters, I have sets & cuttings or bring your own. We'll then construct and join. You may like to add some modelling at this stage too. I'll have tools to help.


Ideal for adults or tall children (workbench is 90cms high). A few sat spaces are possible, let me know if you’d like a sat space.

📍Held in my pottery studio at Thames-side studios, SE185NR. Free and unrestricted parking. Level access to my studio.



Before you arrive:

🏺You may like to bring your own items to stamp with. Cuttings from your garden, brooches, lego, buttons, letters, stamp sets all work well. Look for a depth of a few mm depth and I will have a release agent on the day


On the day:

🏺 my studio is level access and with toilet inside.


🏺Introduction to Thamesside, the tools and the materials


🏺Demo of rolling & cutting to achieve even thickness and drying. How to construct and join. How to best use the stamps with release agent and how we’ll avoid cracking.


🏺I'll assist you with your making, help you with your positioning of stamps and then guide the joining.


Glazing & firing:

🏺a slow dry will be managed to keep joins and construction strong. I will fire once then add a white glaze that works beautifully with this buff coloured clay and fire again to glaze temperature, creating your finished stoneware planter that will provide you with pride and pleasure for many years!


🏺you will collect your finished work four weeks later.


I am fully DBS checked and experienced at working with all ages including children, also SEN students and adults. I am very happy to discuss particular requirements before the class so do contact me.


Cost includes the class, all materials including glaze and two firings.

There is good parking, helpful bus routes and a nice cafe at Thamesside.
