An introduction to Studio Ceramics, a 4 week course [2.5hrs x 4]
Close tuition in my studio on hand-built projects, including hand building construction skills, decorating techniques and glazing, at a time to suit you.
We're going to work hard! Includes take away information and learning sheets every week, a glossary, and list of additional resources. And of course all work will be fired and glazed to finish [delivery or collection to be arranged]
Week one: Introduction to the studio and to the tools & materials, Health & Safety briefing. Dish made in plaster mould, including prep of clay, rolling and drape moulding, stamping or painted slips decoration. Pinch pot & start on a coil pot. Relief tile project to take home, with homework!
Weekly two: Quick tidy of last weeks’ work on rims, edges, bases to ready for bisque firing & decoration. New projects; exploring decorating techniques of inlays [mishima] and scratching [sgraffito] on pre-made plates & tile sets.

Week three Finishing coil pot, discussing of glaze plans. Mug / small pot ; built from scratch, with nature impressions.
Week four Glazing. Understanding the kiln process, glaze application methods. Mixing glazes, application, wiping! Review of course and learnings, further questions / further projects to be discussed.
-Each session 2.5 hours, price includes tools, materials & firing.
-my studio is at Thamesside, SE18, plenty of parking / bus routes.
-For one person or for two.
-The four weeks will need to run weekly or thereabouts so as to maintain continuity, but days & times by discussion. [Glaze week two weeks after week three].
-I can generally do weekdays, evenings, weekends, whatever suits you and good for around age 10+
