Mug, Trafalgar Tavern

£30.00
Mug, Trafalgar Tavern

A large hand-built stoneware mug with my hand drawn image applied. Designed for holding cupped in two hands, whilst celebrating the magnificence of a local gem in Greenwich.

The Trafalgar Tavern is a pub in Greenwich with great historical significance, because it's where I got married!* *(fond memories of family, a fabulous day, an ice sculpture Elvis vodka luge and seven live bands *sigh*).

More significantly to everyone else, this is a large Regency styled pub built in 1837, a favourite of Wilkie Collins & William Thackeray as well as Charles Dickens who drank here with his illustrator George Cruikshank and was even a setting in Our Mutual Friend. It was a well known venue in Victorian times specially for the political 'whitebait dinners', you can still enjoy whitebait today, if not the politics.

You can also see a massive and impressive collection there of maritime themed artworks and artefacts including the Nelson statue completed with artist's access to Nelson original archive held at the nearby National Maritime Museum.
