CLASS: Day Of The Dead decoration: Plumstead Oct 17th (booking essential)
Studio clay session inspired by Day Of The Dead celebrations to make a fully fired stoneware Day Of The Dead decoration. Cost is kindly supported & subsidised by the Plumstead Community Market where this workshop is held.

We will be using a traditional studio ceramics technique called sgrafitto, scratching through a white clay layer that has been hand painted over an unusual black stoneware.
This session allows for settling in, practising your lines and deciding on colour with my help and then the careful scratching through on a pre-prepared and slightly dry skull shape to reveal your design. The (subsidised) cost includes the studio prep, all materials, kiln costs & threading.
How it works:
🎃 Book one timed session per person drawing, every session includes one ‘leather hard’ decoration, which you will add carved line work & colour to before firing & glazing. Final glazed size will be around 9cms. Do order additional decorations if you think you’ll have time for more.
💀 Session times are booked & spaced to allow time & space for the planning and lay out of professional tools for each person
🎃 We’ll carefully scratch onto our decorations. From observation this generally works for children over 7 alone, my guidance would be that younger will need supervision and help from you, so please book yourself alongside. *The tools can be fairly sharp so your child uses with your risk and your guidance*. Adults enjoy this activity too!
💀 Your work will be returned to my studio & kiln fired. They’ll be threaded & available to collect from my studio in SE18 or evenings in SE7 in time for Oct 31st.
🎃 This is an inclusive activity for all as part of the Plumstead Community Market. The craft area is up a few steps with apologies to wheel chair users so if this session is more accessable with level access let’s discuss you coming to my studio for this instead.
💀 I have plenty of teaching experience & am fully DBS certified. It's not hugely messy but if you need to preserve special outfits do feel free to bring your own aprons / cover all.
