Make a green man wall plaque and explore themes of nature, environmental protection and legend. Suitable for beginners or more experienced. One session, two hours.

Create a serene and kindly modeled face surrounded by a bounty of leaves and flowers and berries, suitable for hanging inside or out. Peering from the foliage of your garden or interior you might include your plaque as a focus for your May Day or Beltane seasonal reflection and working with clay and natural found organics is very soothing!


🌿 This is a two hour class held in my Thames-side pottery Studio, SE185NR. All materials, firing and glaze are included. The price improves person as you add more in, up to four people.

How will the session work?


🌿 I'll briefly introduce the Green Man (/ Green Goddess!) legend and history, how it may tie to Beltane, May Day or wheel of the year celebrations.

I'll have plenty of image resource and material to inspire and use as printing and modelling whatever the season! A brief demo of cutting, printing & construction will get you started.


🌿 We'll cut sturdy slabs to act as a base for then adding modeled faces, adding eyes, nose and mouth, they’ll be loads of help with this with positioning guides, very easy.


🌿 We'll examine a range of natural resources that I'll bring in (you are most welcome to bring yours too), leaves, vines, berries etc, and how they may act as hair, eyebrows or beards.


🌿 using a combination of modeled, impressed and stamped pieces we'll create a radiating relief of natural elements around the facial design, taking care with firm application and depth. We'll position where the hole will be cut for hanging. You may like to create additional cut-in around your modeling.


🌿 Your creations will dry slowly & carefully and then join scheduling for firing and glazing with rich Greenwich Green.


🌿 You'll collect your finished work 3 to 4 weeks later from my studio.
