This is a weekly session, held at the most excellent Sweet Pickings community cafe in Charlton, a lovely space opening onto a garden.

SATURDAY MARCH 7TH: rolling, modelling, cutting, stamping and sticking, we’re making hanging tiles inspired by the garden. Bring anything along that you’d like to try stamping with, badges, Lego & toy cars are ideal!

Weekly one-session clay projects will be completed with close tuition in your session, and each week we’ll learn new skills with a new project, and I’ll provide some visual resources too. I’ll be taking the work back to my studio, drying, firing & glazing, and your glazed work will be returned to the cafe for you to collect a few weeks later.

We’ll be working in small groups with stoneware clay and studio tools. We’ll be hand building each week using skills of modelling, mark making, cutting, joining & building. Some tools are sharp, we’ll talk through the respect and care needed at the start of each session.

Our work & projects will link to the themes of the cafe. It is a space welcome for all & the accessible garden includes allotment growing, bees, chickens, & insect study. The cafe promotes healthy eating and community. I aim to create an inclusive and engaged activity, there is level access to this bright welcoming space [and level access toilets can be be arranged with the cafe staff].

All welcome, work encouraged at an individual level, and this aims to be a focussed calm activity. I am used to working with children and have DBS certification and liability insurance. The work will require sitting still and listening to instruction, and then independent work which I will help with. If you have a very young child to include they are most welcome but please book your own session alongside them to give extra support.

This is costed & prepared carefully so I’m afraid I can’t refund on no shows. There is very easy and free parking at the cafe in the school playground. If you’re not joining in, expect to catch up on the papers with a coffee whilst we are working at the other end of the room, or have a look round the garden and see what’s growing.
