Kitchen dish: Blackheath tea hut / Royal Naval College
A seni functional dish hand built in stoneware with celadon glazes, oxide washes and my line drawing applied as decals. Inlaid rim and lugs. The glaze creates depths, texture & stormy skies over our favourite local places. 20cm wide x 8cm tall. (Not perfectly round, this is entirely hand built).
The Blackheath tea hut was first established on a handy stretch of Blackheath common in 1924. Providing 24 hour teas to all drivers there was a huge reaction of loss and sadness when it was flattened in January 2020 by a reckless driver.
STOP PRESS the tea hut lives on! There is a new hut in the old spot, Aug 21.
Available only occasionally or by commission, & I’m happy to discuss other subjects.
